How many miles are acceptable for a used scooter?

I’ve been thinking about getting myself a scooter. A used scooter sounds like the best option right now. I looked at a few Vespas at a local motorbike dealership, and they told me that 13,000 miles was quite an average ammount for a used scooter to have gone through.
Knowing that the least miles the better, at what kind of figures should I be looking at?

Forget about Vespas. They’re overpriced. Look at Kymco, Piaggio or a Japanese brand. Maybe even Tomos.
As for mileage; a scoot with 3000 miles on it, which has never been serviced, is not going to be as good as one with 23,000 on it which has been well looked after. You have to do the research. As for the dealer’s figure, well, I think he made it up out of thin air.
